Day Out 3: Darling Harbour

The main attraction of the day was the Sydney Aquarium. When booking tickest on-line (cheaper) you will get an entrance time so while waiting a great place to play is the parc in Darling Harbour. Plenty of thing to climb on and the water works that engages and cools down on a hot day. Sea Life, Sydney Aquarium, with all the water animals you can find in Australia: including sharks and the incredible Dugon, where the legend has it were taken for mermaids by early European sailors arriving in Australia's waters (It did not want to be captured on photo).

Day Out 2: Customs House

Around Circular Quay is a busy harbour with all the city ferries, The Modern Museum and the Sydney Opera House just around the corner. Also a fun place to watch people and the digeridoo players for tourists. If you want to find a quiet place and catch your breath, the old Customs house is a nice place just behind the train station. There is a small library with a children's section, exhibitions and a roof top restaurant. As you enter the Customs House there is a map of the City and every kid just had to crawl and lie on the floor to look around! Library with Kartell lamps, designed by Ferruccio Laviani.

Day Out 1: Exploring Sydney public transport

Sydney in mid-winter and with the rainiest june in six years ... We are lucky one little boy is more interested in transport to sights rather than seeing them. There is a small train museum at the Central station. What better way to explore the city than in public transport, from trains and (the last days of) the Monorail to landing in Sydney Superman style. Where but in Sydney will you get a real Babychino to enjoy. At Victoria Building!

We bought some nice olive oil to gift the teachers at the end of term. With a pair of eyes and a nice ribbon the brown paper turned into curious personalities.

Playing on rugs

The floor, ground and of course the rug is the best place to play. Rugs can be designed for play but most of the time kids only need to use their imagination to create their own world. Here is a play rug from the big toystore. At mom's work, the rug Re Rag Rug II also works as tracks and roads. And a playmate. Jump, jump, jump, testing Re Rag Rug IV. Rib rug from Linum designed by textile designer Synnöve Mork, a master of stripes! Sand, unbeatable ground for play.

Crochet Playground!

It started in Japan with artist Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam who created a scupture/playground of colorful crochet for to play on! She made the first one in 1979 and the latest one is inside a wooden igloo in an open air museum of Hakode. Sweden will now get it's first crochet playground, created by Berit Wilkmar who was so inspired by the original idea that she wanted to do the same, and with the consent of the artist in Japan, it will be in Björkhaga Trädgårdsgalleri in Hörby, Skåne.

Travelling north

We take the train to the north of Sweden to the grandparents. There is plenty of space for constructing things like high altitude tracks!

Playing in Tokyo

I wonder where to play in Tokyo sitting on the top floor of the Sunshine-buildning. This is a mall full of shops, restaurants and even a whole aquarium. Where you can't speak the language – soccer and drawing will work everywhere! Checking out interacting art and visiting the trick-art museum in Odaiba was sensational! Bye Bye Tokyo! We will be back!  

Spring cleaning and insects

First day at the island for the season. We found that the ant hill is still there, the mice only chewed a pacifier this winter in the search for food. The sun is acctually warm and we saw the first bumble bee. Spring cleaning, ”Fika” and insects are the words of the day as well as re discovering old toys. We even have a bright blue beatle on the back yard helping out. Waiting for the boat back to the city and at 7 pm the sun is still high!

Playing in Milan with Leonardo

Leonardo da Vinci lived more than 25 years in Milan. At Piazza della Scala (close to the Dome) the Leonardo3 – The world of Leonardo exhibition, is open until 31st July 2013. The Time Machine, the Flying Machine, the Mechanical Dragonfly and many other works by da Vinci have been constructed from his sketches. Also 3D reconstructions and most interesting for kids- the multimedia display stations with touch screen where you can assemble the constructions. Fun!
