Days Out: on Sydney beaches

The best place for out door play is of course the beaches of Sydney. Apart from the well known Bondi Beach, every suburb has it's own haven and in July they are hardly any people around. The cold water does not scare us Northeners away ... No toys needed, the sand and shells and water is entertainment enough.

Day Out 5: The Powerhouse Museum

The Powerhouse Museum is Sydney's Design and Science museum. Fun for kids that like exploring, costructing (and trains). There are always children's activities, and  this time the interactive workshop Oikodome, Building architects, constructing geometric shapes with cardboard rolls. Students in architecture were there to guide children above 5 on how. Locomotive No. 1, first train in NSW. In the museum coffee shop, The babychino finished! Inspired by the exhibitions we buy a little airplane. It's another brand than Lego and the pieces do not stay together... and causes much frustration. And how does jet engines work?

Day Out 4: Sydney Olympic Park

Take a ferry or train to Sydney Olympic Park and avoid the sports arenas... Instead spend a day and bike around Newington Armoury, play on the docks, learn about Bird Life, and don't forget the Babychino...

Crochet Playground!

It started in Japan with artist Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam who created a scupture/playground of colorful crochet for to play on! She made the first one in 1979 and the latest one is inside a wooden igloo in an open air museum of Hakode. Sweden will now get it's first crochet playground, created by Berit Wilkmar who was so inspired by the original idea that she wanted to do the same, and with the consent of the artist in Japan, it will be in Björkhaga Trädgårdsgalleri in Hörby, Skåne.

Playing in Tokyo

I wonder where to play in Tokyo sitting on the top floor of the Sunshine-buildning. This is a mall full of shops, restaurants and even a whole aquarium. Where you can't speak the language – soccer and drawing will work everywhere! Checking out interacting art and visiting the trick-art museum in Odaiba was sensational! Bye Bye Tokyo! We will be back!  

Fun in the snow at Easter

We travelled North for Easter Weekend, to Härjedalen. The snow was still solid so too early to bring out the bikes. This means of transport we call 'spark' (which means 'kick') was still the best way to get around. Perfect for play and to drive them on icy lakes, on the lawn, on a strip on the road and on the melting ice hockey rink was fun for hours! (after the egg hunt of course)

  

Moderna Museet Stockholm – Family Sunday

Every Sunday is Family Sunday at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. This time we looked at the Henri Matisse big collage and the blue monochrome of Yves Klein followed by collage-making and painting in the Workshop. It is free admission to the museum for everyone under 18.

Lill-Skansen

Lill-Skansen är nominerad till prestigefullt pris! Som enda nordiska museum har Lill-Skansen nominerats av organisationerna European Museum Academy och Hands on! International till det internationella priset för bästa museum för barn 2013, 2013 Children's Museum Award. Designbyrån BankerWessel (Tuut! Kids designers, Jonas och Ida) har bl. a formgivit alla skyltar till det nya Lill-Skansen och det är vi förstås mycket stolta över! I arbetet med nomineringarna av kandidaterna till priset har juryn sökt efter särskilt kreativa sätt att skapa utställningar och program som är meningsskapande och lockande för barn i åldern upp till 14 år. Lyktfestival

Today we visited Östasiatiska Museet the Museum of Asian art in Stockholm. At the Workshop ”the Dragon” we painted lanterns to celebrate the new year. February 10 is when the new year started. ”The year of the Snake”. Fifteen days after the Chinese new year the Festival of the Lanterns or Yuan Xiao Jie is celebrated. In the ancient China people thought heavenly souls was flying in the sky during the years first full moon. A fire or lantern should show them the way home. In the childrens play room you will find a big dragon to climb on, a map of the Far East and a memory game. But I think most of the fun that day was to throw snow balls on mom and dad!
